Methodology
This map is based on A Crimson Record: Seven State Modern Day Lynching Report 2000–2025, an 18-month study conducted by JULIAN. The team reviewed and investigated hundreds of cases and classified each according to JULIAN's definition of a modern-day lynching (MDL).
Cases are shown in two categories:
- ● Modern-day lynchings (MDLs) — crimson markers
- ● Notable hate crimes and suspicious deaths since 2000 — blue markers
Locations are mapped at the city, county, or parish level based on public records and investigative findings. Victim names are intentionally not displayed on the map; the emphasis is on geographic patterns and systemic violence rather than on individual case sensationalization.
For the full methodology, definitions, bibliography, and footnotes from A Crimson Record, please refer to JULIAN's official materials or contact JULIAN via julianfreedom.org.
